PARADE
WHO ARE THE PLAYERS?
Music & Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, Book by Alfred Uhry
Directed by Danny Hoskins
WHAT'S THE DEAL?
“Parade is essential viewing that shows its audience that society cannot outrun the sins of the past, no matter how hard we try.” —Exeunt NYC
“Some shows heal; others are meant to keep a wound open. There are beliefs that we know are diametrically and morally opposed. Yet in America, with her blood-red hills, the sacred and the dangerously nostalgic can be sung to the same tune.” - The New Yorker
WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
Ostracized for his faith and Northern heritage, Jewish factory manager Leo Frank is accused of murdering a teenaged factory girl the day of the annual Confederate Memorial Day parade. Alfred Uhry’s award-winning book and Jason Robert Brown’s rousing, colorful and haunting score illuminate a circus of conflicting accounts, false testimony and mishandled evidence in a town reeling with social and racial tension. Isolated from the world, Leo develops a new and deeper love for his wife, who tirelessly crusades for his freedom. Parade is a compelling and provocative tale of justice miscarried, revealing a country at odds with its declarations of equality.
